Meeting People Socially and Professionally
The company is organizing an event so that candidates can meet with the team members.
This is an opportunity to talk to and interact with other people interested in doing the same work as me.
I can exchange with them. We can discuss about our respective set of skills.
The team organizing the cocktail party was the operational team. It includes auditing and consulting.
The consulting team is made of specialists in the field of network development, Java applications, etc. Writing specifications for a project is a major part of a consultant’s work.
It is always interesting to exchange with others about how they approach writing specifications. Sometimes the conversation gets very technical and extra care is needed for precision and accuracy.
Once in a while the conversation becomes so technical and detail oriented that I know, I am talking to what I qualify as a “functional geek”.
Functional geeks love to dive into the details of procedures and find it difficult to step back and see the big picture.
Overall the cocktail is a good idea, because it creates a warm feeling. Almost casual, yet still professional. This more relaxed ambiance/atmosphere gives the feeling that I do not have to sell myself, and I can approach business conversations more openly. And even go deeper into the issues that are raised.
In my honest opinion, the cocktail is a great way to motivate candidates to join XYZ because:
-It is different from what other Consulting firms do to motivate their employees;
-The atmosphere is very open and lays a positive ground for conversations;
-The cocktail does not give the feeling that you are being judge;
-We can actually develop a two-way conversation with the employer.
